On the heels of our final show of our 48th Season, ALL SHOOK UP, Lakeland Players is excited to announce our upcoming 49th Season of shows, as we’ll be calling it: “From Cinema to Stage”.

MADAGASCAR JR. will start our season as part of our Lakeland Players Youth Theatre. Join Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the hip hip Hippo and, of course, those hilarious, plotting penguins as they bound onto your stage in the musical adventure of a lifetime. Based on the smash DreamWorks animated motion picture, Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR. follows all of your favorite crack-a-lackin’ friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar. Performing July 22 & 23, 2022.

This fall will see YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN: THE MUSICAL. Written by and based on the Mel Brooks movie YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, this hit Broadway musical is sure to tickle your funny bone. Grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced “Fronk-en-steen”) inherits his family’s estate in Transylvania. With the help of a hunchbacked sidekick, Igor (pronounced “Eye-gore”), and a leggy lab assistant, Inga (pronounced normally), Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors. “It’s alive!” he exclaims as he brings to life a creature to rival his grandfather’s. Eventually, of course, the monster escapes and hilarity continuously abounds. You’ll be “Puttin’ on the Ritz” and having a monstrously good time. Performing October 7-9 & 14-16, 2022.

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS Twas The Night Before Christmas will be our second presentation by the Lakeland Players Youth Theatre this year. A spin-off of the beloved story by Clement Moore, it follows Izzy the mouse, the silent creature, being shooed from Moores home before Clement is able to finish his poem about Christmas. Sad and alone she goes on a journey to the North Pole to see Santa, only to find out she must unravel a mystery of who is trying to ruin Christmas by sabotaging the toys made by the elves. Her quest involves meeting several known Christmas creatures, and a visit with broken toys, to find the culprits. Will she be able to to return back home to the Moores before Christmas? How will Clement finish his poem? Come, find out and enjoy a heartfelt ending this season. Performing December 2-4, 2022

STEEL MAGNOLIAS The funniest play to ever make you cry. STEEL MAGNOLIAS concerns a group of gossipy southern ladies in a small-town beauty parlor. Both hilarious and touching—and, in the end, deeply revealing of the strength and purposefulness which underlies the antic banter of its characters. Performing February 23-26, 2023

MONTY PYTHON’S SPAMALOT Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the Tony Award winning MONTY PYTHON’S SPAMALOT retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and features a bevy of beautiful show girls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and French people. The outrageous, uproarious, and gloriously entertaining story of King Arthur and the Lady of the Lake will delight audiences as they search for the Holy Grail and “always look on the bright side of life.” Performing May 12-14 & 19-21, 2023
