Announcing our 2021-2022 Season!
Lakeland Players is proud to announce our new season of shows! As we once again open our doors after a long time off, our new season of shows promises to be fun, exciting, musical, comical, and a great time for all.
Always, Patsy Cline, a musical play created by Ted Swindley, is our first show this fall. The musical play, complete with down home country humor, true emotion and even some audience participation, includes many of Patsy’ unforgettable hits such as “Crazy”, “I Fall to Pieces”, “Sweet Dreams” and “Walking After Midnight”…27 songs in all. “Always…Patsy Cline” is more than a tribute to the legendary country singer who died tragically at age 30 in a plane crash in 1963. The show is based on a true story about Cline’s friendship with a fan from Houston named Louise Seger, who befriended the star in a Texas honky-tonk in 1961, and continued a correspondence with Cline until her death. The show’s title was inspired by Cline’s letters to Seger, which were consistently signed “Love ALWAYS… Patsy Cline.” Performance dates are: September 24, 25, 26 and October 1, 2, 3, 2021.
Elf: The Musical is our winter/holidays show. Based on the beloved holiday film, this hilarious fish-out-of-water comedy follows Buddy the Elf in his quest to find his true identity. Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh realities that his father is on the naughty list and his half-brother doesn’t even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas. Audition dates are October 4 and 5, 2021 at 7:00pm with callbacks on Wednesday, October 6, 2021. Performance dates are: December 10, 11, 12 and 17, 18, 19, 2021.
The Nerd by noted playwright Larry Shue is our first show of the 2022 year. Set in Terre Haute, Indiana in late 1979, The Nerd centers on the hilarious dilemma of Willum, a young architect who is visited by Rick Steadman, a fellow ex-GI whom he has never met but who saved has life after he was seriously wounded in Vietnam. Willum is delighted when Rick shows up unexpectedly at his apartment on the night of his thirty-fourth birthday party. However, Rick’s awkward manner and inappropriate behavior throw the occasion into shambles. It turns out that Rick is a stupid nerd who overstays his welcome with a vengeance. Audition dates are: Sunday, January 2, 2022 at 2:00pm and Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 7:00pm. Performance dates are: February 18, 19, 20 and 25, 26, 27, 2022.
All Shook Up! is our final show of the season. Inspired by and featuring the songs of Elvis Presley. It’s 1955, and into a square little town in a square little state rides a guitar-playing young man who changes everything and everyone he meets. Loosely based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, this hip-swiveling, lip-curling musical fantasy will have you jumpin’ out of your blue suede shoes with such classics as “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Hound Dog,” “Jailhouse Rock,” and “Don’t Be Cruel.” Performance dates are: May 13, 14, 15 and 20, 21, 22, 2022.
